How Do I Know What I Know About Social Media???
The article I posted today was very interesting and I learned a lot from this article. I liked knowing there is a group called the Ethics Resource Center (ERC). The ERC is the oldest non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to independent research and advancement of high ethical standards and practices in private and public institutions. They have operated since 1994.
The one thing I want to point out that I learned today is that the ERC creates a report called the National Business Ethics Survey. This report is available to the public. In the article I found, I learned of a book worth reading called Firing at Will: A Manager's Guide. The author is Jay Shepard. He goes into detail about ethics in the workplace. I think I am going to order this book.
I do think this site I found is reliable for credible information. I looked up the website on the Internet and Mashable is a social media blog about social media...go figure. What I liked about this site is the Mashland has won numerous awards and it is a reputable news reporting agency. Mashable Connect is a yearly conference. At this conference the attendees discuss social media ethics, issues and ways to help consumers deal with content overload.

Awesome article about Ethics and Social Media! There is a group called the ERC (Ethics Resource Center. The ERC did a study called National Business Ethics Survey. The survey gathered findings about employees thoughts and perspectives on workplace ethics. This ERC survey is one of the first to see a connection between social media and ethics. What is interesting is that companies over the last few years have implemented social networking policies in the workplace.
One conclusion this study found was that high performing social networkers are more accepting of business activities that could be seen as unethical.

This is good from The Huffington Post. "In Social Media and Politics, Engagement and Influence Trumps Follower Count". This article deals specifically with the 2012 Presidential Election. Its funny how years ago, media agencies used polls to determine who the likely candidate would be. Now, the news agencies are following Social Media follower posts to get an idea of popular opinion on candidates. Interesting article!

Here is an interesting article I found on PBS. The Media's Influence on body image. There is no doubt that beauty sells. In our society we are taught that it is good to be thin and beautiful. The advertisers make money from products they sell. The advertisers then pay the news agencies or tv shows for advertising time.
Media is a big influence when it comes to what is beautiful and what is not. Popular, beautiful celebrities and people spend a lot of money to be beautiful, whether it is breast implants, plastic surgery or starving oneself to be beautiful.http://www.pbs.org/perfectillusions/eatingdisorders/preventing_media.html
